This is to provide a brief summary of the activities of the Jack Pitts Health Foundation (JPHF), a 501(c)(3) public charity, which conducts the Jack Pitts Open Golf Tournament. This event raises funds to help organizations in the delivery of services, education and information to combat the causes and effects of cancer, diabetes and related diseases. Last year was the fifth year of the tournament and the first year as the primary fund raiser for the JPHF.
Over the past five years , funds raised from the golf tournament have resulted in over $50,000.00 being donated to various health organizations and providers. Donations were made to organizations who’s work impacted breast and prostate cancer, kidney disease, diabetes and related diseases via research, education and direct services. These efforts have been duly recognized with plaques in the lobbies of Sparrow Hospital and the Henry Cancer Center. In addition on April 24, of this year, Jack Pitts, Founder of the JPHF, will receive the Leadership Award from the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
Our motto continues to be ” It Is Not About Us But Those We Do This For”. To that end in 2019 the JPHF will initiate two new programs that will provide information, education and services to Those who need them and in locations best for them. First, we will implement, “Team Diabetes “, in an effort to develop a Support Group for those affected by the disease of Diabetes. The number 11 will be the symbol of Team Diabetes but will be referred to as OneOne, One Purpose One Goal. ( My goal is to Successfully Manage My Diabetes; My Purpose is Stay Alive for My Family). Through the Foundation’s Website, we will develop the means for individuals to share information about how they are managing their Diabetes. We want to have a platform where individuals can not only share their information but review what others are doing in this area. This Will Not be Medical information but more of a forum on how Diabetics have taken information from their Healthcare Provider and developed their own plan for managing their Diabetic Situation.
Secondly, in the fall of this year we will implement our own Health Screening Day. In this initiative we will go into specific neighborhoods where and set up Health Screening Seminars where individuals can listen , ask questions, get information and find out about services for a range of topics, I.e., Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Kidney Diseases, Body Mass, Nutrition and more. This information will be provided by professionals in the areas listed.
